Chubbie Cubbie's Tree Activities
Activity name:
Decorate a Tree
Materials needed:
Green Construction Paper or Green Tissue
Paper in several shades
White Glue or Glue Sticks
Scissors
Brown Crayons
Preparation:
Draw an outline of a tree without leaves.
Cut leaf shapes or small circle or square shapes from either the
construction paper or the tissue paper.
Carrying out the
activity:
Have children color their tree then have them
glue the "leaves" on their trees.
Activity name:
Pinecone Trees
Materials needed:
Whole Pinecones
Water
Large Sponge
Grass Seed
Saucer or Shallow Bowl Wide Enough for the Sponge.
Preparation:
Cut a small hole in the center of the sponge.
Place the sponge in the saucer or bowl. Place the pinecone in the
hole.
Carrying out the
activity:
Have the children sprinkle their pinecone
with grass seed. Next have them pour water into the saucer so that
it is level with the top of the sponge. Place in a safe and sunny
location. Check the sponge every few days to ensure that it stays
moist. Refill saucers with water as necessary. In a short time
the grass will sprout.

Celery Trees
Materials needed:
Celery Stalks with Leaves Attached
Several Vases or Tall Glasses
Water
Green Food Coloring
Preparation:
Fill vase or glass 3/4 full with water. Add
enough food color to make a reasonably dark tint. Cut bottom of celery
stalk at an angle.
Carrying out the
activity:
Have the children place a celery stalk in
colored water. Place in a safe place. The stalk will absorb the colored
water and tint the celery (usually overnight).
