Chubbie Cubbie's Activities for Summer

Activity name:
Watercolor Chalk Paintings

Materials needed:
Colored sidewalk chalk
Spray bottles filled with water
Outdoor paved surface (a dark driveway or parking lot works best)

Preparation:
None

Carrying out the activity:
Have the children draw a picture or design on the paved surface. 

After they are done have them spray the chalk with water to make the colors bleed and blend.

Activity name:
Watermelon Slices

Materials needed:
1/2 of a paper plate
Red and green paint or crayons
Clean, dry watermelon seeds
White glue

Preparation:
None

Carrying out the activity:
Have the children color or paint the outer edge of the paper plate green and the inner portion red. 

When they have finished coloring their plate, have them glue some watermelon seeds to the red part.  (If you don't have watermelon seeds, or don't wish to use them, you can cut some from black paper).

Activity name:
Smiling Suns

Materials needed:
Paper plate
Yellow and black paint or crayons
Yellow construction paper
Glue sticks
Scissors

Preparation:
Cut 6 or 7 long triangles from yellow construction paper for each child.  They should be about 2"w x 5" h.

Carrying out the activity:
Have the children color or paint their plate yellow.  Then, add smiley face to the middle. (If using paint, be sure the yellow is dry before painting on the black.)

After their plates are decorated, have them glue some rays (triangles) to the outer edges of their plate.
