Chubbie Cubbie's Spring Activities
Activity name:
Spring Bouquet
Materials needed:
Egg cartons (the paper kind; not the styrofoam ones)
Crayons, markers, or paint
White glue
Glitter
Green pipe cleaners
Ribbon or yarn
Pen or knife
Small pompoms (optional)
Vase (optional)
Preparation:
Cut the egg carton cup sections apart. Discard the lid.
Carrying out the
activity:
Have the children color or paint their egg cups anyway they choose.
Then, using a pen or knife, poke a small hole into the bottom of each egg
cup. Fold the end of a pipe cleaner over once or twice to "knot" it
and then feed it through the hole to create a stem. Be sure the
"knot" is on the inside of the cup.
To finish the flowers add some glue to the edges of the cups and sprinkle
on some glitter. If you'd like you can also glue a small pompom into
the center.
When the flowers are complete tie them together with a ribbon or piece of
yarn or place them into a vase.
Activity name:
Cherry Blossoms
Materials needed:
Unsalted, unbuttered popcorn
Red powdered Tempra paint
Lunch bag
White glue
Blue construction paper
Brown paint, maker, or crayon
Preparation:
Pop popcorn. While still warm, place in a lunch bag with some
powdered Tempra paint and shake until coated. Should be a pink
color.
Carrying out the
activity:
Draw or have the children draw a tree branch onto their piece of blue
paper. Next, have them glue on some cherry blossoms (tinted
popcorn).
Activity name:
Pussy Willows
Materials needed:
Cotton swab with a large tip (Q-tips brand works best)
Scissors
White glue
Construction paper
Brown paint, maker, or crayon
Preparation:
Use scissors to cut the tips off of the cotton swabs. Discard the sticks.
You'll only be using the tips.
Carrying out the
activity:
Draw or have the children draw a tree branch onto a piece of construction
paper. Next, have them glue on the tips from the cotton swabs.
Be sure to talk about how the cotton swab tips are soft and fuzzy like
real pussy willow blossoms.
