Activity name:
Paper Plate Kites
Materials needed:
Paper plate
18" piece of string
36" piece of string
Hole punch
Stapler
18" long piece of crepe paper
Crayons or markers
Preparation:
Punch two holes in the sides of the paper plate directly across from each
other.
Carrying out the
activity:
Have the children color their paper plates on the front and back.
Tie the 18" piece of string one end
in each hole. Be sure the string is on the inside of the plate (the
part you would put food on). Then, tie the 36" piece of string to
the center of the 18" piece. Finally, staple on a piece of crepe
paper for the tail.
Please note it will need it to be
quite windy for the kites to fly, but they will fly.
Activity name:
Kite Puzzle
Materials needed:
Piece of construction paper
Crayons or markers
Scissors
Preparation:
Use scissors to cut the piece of construction paper into a diamond shape.
Carrying out the
activity:
Have the children color their cut out kites. Then, cut the kites
apart to create a puzzle.
For groups, cut out the kite on a
large piece of construction paper (12" x 18") or on a piece of poster
board. Precut it into the puzzle pieces and give each child a piece
to color. When they're done, see if they can put the kite puzzle
together as a group.
